Cornerstone is an AAHA accredited hospital that believes pets are part of the family. We see a variety of companion animal and exotic pets including cats, dogs, birds, reptiles, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, hedgehogs, and an array of other small pocket pets. Our team is constantly looking for ways to be on the cutting edge of medicine – some of the unique things we do here include stem cell therapy, acupuncture, and physical rehabilitation.
As a nurse with us, you play such an important role in ensuring our patients are taken care of with excellence! Daily tasks include the following:
- Phlebotomy, diagnostic labwork, diagnostic imaging (radiographs/ultrasound)
- Placement of IV catheters and other pre-anesthetic preparation of patients
- Anesthetic monitoring and assitance in complex surgeries
- Daily treatments of hospitalized patients
- Maintenance of hospital equipment
- Surgical pack preparation and maintenance
- Collection of history and vital parameters on patients
- Client education: subcutaneous fluid therapy, insulin administration, medication administration, nail trims, etc.
Qualifications and Skills
- Passing of the VTNE
- 6+ months experience as a registered veterinary technician or veterinary nurse
- Ability to be able to take direction when needed as well as to take iniative in completing tasks
- Desire to practice best medicine under the direction of hospital DVMs and a continued thirst to learn
- Eager to be a team player, helping to create a positive culture and allowing the hospital to function to full capacity
- Ability to lift 40 pounds

At Cornerstone, we don’t believe in referring unless absolutely necessary. We want to do everything we can to provide quality care to our patients. To provide excellent and advanced medical care to your patients without having to refer them, it is imperative that you have the tools you need. Hospital equipment includes, but is not limited to the following:
- In house laboratory equipment (CBC, chemistries, clotting factors, UA SA)
- Digital radiography and ultrasonography machines
- Dental radiography machine
- Tonopen and butterfly ophthalmoscopes
- Electrocautery equipment
- Photobiomodulation laser
- Electroacupuncture machine
- Stance analyzer
- Underwater treadmill
Daily tasks of our doctors include the following:
- Examination, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases in companion animals
- Optional examination, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases in exotic animals
- Comprehensive oral examinations and evaluation of dental radiographs
- Oral surgery and surgical extractions
- Basic elective surgery (spays, neuters, growth removals)
- Other surgical therapy: wound and laceration repairs, esophageal tube placement, enterotomy, gastrotomy, cystotomy, etc.
- Interpretation of abdominal, thoracic, and orthopedic radiographs
- Interpretation of labwork and cytology
- Optional work in ultrasonography
- Ensuring veterinary nurses and assistants are providing hospitalized patients appropriate care
- Thorough medical charting
- Calling owners with results from pending labwork or other diagnostic tests
- Assistance in leading and training staff members
Qualifications and Skills
- DVM status, license to practice in Missouri, and BNDD license
- 1+ years experience as a DVM
- Ability to be able to take direction from hospital medical director when needed as well as to take initiative in completing tasks
- Desire to practice best medicine, ability to follow hospital protocols, and a continued thirst to learn
- Willingness to build clientele and be a foundation to grow the hospital
- Eager to be a team player, helping to create a positive culture and allowing the hospital to function to full capacity
- Understanding that while job titles may differ, each member of the team plays an imperative role and is to be respected
- Individual who loves medicine, but is also motivated and wants to learn more about the business side of the veterinary field
- Ability to lift 40 pounds
